Watch Movement Constructor (M/F/X)
Permanent contract | Watchmaking | La Chaux-de-Fonds
Designing a movement is imagining what does not yet exist.
Do you enjoy starting from a specification, seeking a mechanical solution, designing it in 3D, confronting it with industrial constraints, and then seeing it come to life in the workshops?
For a watch manufacture renowned for its expertise and the technicality of its developments, we are looking for a Watch Movement Constructor with solid experience in the design and development of watch mechanisms.
A position for those who love as much to design as to understand, search, improve and realise.
Your mission:
Integrated into the Movement Development team, you participate in the design of new movements and mechanisms as well as the evolution of existing products.
You are involved in the entire development process, from the initial technical considerations to the validation of pre-series and production launch.
Design and develop:
- Design and build watch movements and mechanisms based on specifications.
- Integrate technical and industrial constraints as well as quality, cost and deadline objectives from the design stage.
- Participate in establishing schedules with project managers.
- Collaborate closely with industrialisation, manufacturing, quality, assembly and after-sales service.
- Support developments in the workshops and participate in the technical validation of pre-series.
Research and innovate:
- Imagine new mechanisms and propose solutions to improve products.
- Analyse the state of the art, patents and existing solutions.
- Actively participate in development meetings.
- Ensure technological watch and contribute to the evolution of construction standards.
- Be proactive in addressing technical issues encountered.
Guarantee construction quality
- Control and validate plans produced by draftsmen.
- Verify the consistency of dimensions, tolerances and adjustments.
- Validate requests for technical modifications.
- Ensure updating of plans and monitoring of their various indices.
- Guarantee the availability of reliable technical documentation for different departments.
Develop existing movements
You also participate in the life of calibres already in production by proposing, developing and validating modifications to improve their reliability, performance or industrialisation.
You may also provide your technical expertise during the preparation of certain commercial offers.
Your profile:
You hold a higher technical education ET/ES, HES or equivalent, ideally in watch design, microtechnology or mechanical engineering.
You have at least 3 years of experience in a similar role, with good knowledge of the development and construction of watch movements.
A broader knowledge of watch casing is an asset.
Your technical skills
You possess:
- An excellent ability in 3D mechanical representation and design.
- Good command of a CAD software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
- Good knowledge of dimensioning, tolerancing and adjustments principles.
- Knowledge in numerical simulation, notably ANSYS, is an advantage.
- Familiarity with technical data management environments PDM.
- Good understanding of constraints related to manufacturing and industrialisation of watch components.
And above all, your working style
We are looking for someone who does not just execute a design.
You are technically curious, autonomous and able to propose alternatives when a solution reaches its limits.
You also appreciate leaving your screen to go to the workshops, interact with production and confront your technical choices with manufacturing reality.
Rigor, confidentiality, team spirit and the ability to share your knowledge will be essential to succeed in this role.
Why join this manufacture?
You will join an environment where watch construction is at the heart of product development.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Participate in the development of new movements and mechanisms.
- Follow your designs through to pre-series and industrialisation.
- Work closely with the various trades of the manufacture.
- Work on both new developments and improvements of existing calibres.
- Have real technical autonomy and be proactive.
- Develop in an environment where expertise, innovation and watchmaking know-how meet.
Do you recognise yourself?
You have already gained experience in watch movement construction and now wish to participate in developments where your technical expertise will have a real impact?
Then let’s meet.
At Whyness, we are as interested in your know-how as in the person behind your career.
Your application will be treated with complete confidentiality.
