Role:

IT in a research environment must function reliably and at the same time be flexible enough to cover different working methods and technical requirements. In this position, you take responsibility for the local infrastructure and are an important point of contact for employees, researchers, and students. You work closely with central IT and have the opportunity to combine classic system administration with automation, cloud technologies, and modern research topics.

Responsibilities:

• You ensure the reliable operation of the local IT infrastructure and support Windows, macOS, and Linux systems at client and server level.

• You take on 1st and 2nd level support and analyse and resolve technical problems directly with users.

• You set up data backups for servers, laboratory and device PCs, as well as selected workstation systems, and monitor their reliable function.

• You support users in the use of institute-specific software and provide advice on technical questions.

• You raise awareness among users for IT security and assist with the secure use of systems and applications.

• You participate in smaller IT projects and coordinate technical issues with the central IT department.

• You identify recurring support tasks and develop approaches for automation and process simplification.

• You maintain close contact with research groups and support technical questions regarding cloud infrastructures and scientific IT.

• You engage with possible application areas of AI-supported workflows and support applications in the field of computer-assisted chemistry as needed.

• You actively develop the interface between IT and research and contribute to integrating technical solutions practically into everyday research.

Qualifications:

• You have training in computer science, at least at the level of a Swiss Federal VET diploma with a focus on platform development.

• Ideally, you hold a degree in computer science from a university of applied sciences or comparable further education.

• You preferably bring several years of experience as a system engineer or in a comparable role.

• You have solid knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux, both in client and server environments.

• You are interested in understanding the technical requirements of various research groups and developing suitable solutions.

• You enjoy working directly with users and are characterised by a strong customer and service orientation.

• You approach tasks independently, in a structured and solution-oriented manner.

• You take responsibility and communicate confidently with different contacts.

• You enjoy working in a team and bring an open and cooperative working style.

• You have excellent German and English skills, both spoken and written, at least at C1 level.
