Your Tasks
Building data foundations: You plan and maintain data pipelines and data warehouses for statistical data sets. You support the scientific staff in analysing and publishing these data.
Working with people and data: You use your communication skills to understand the requirements of our stakeholders and acquire the necessary domain knowledge; you outline solutions and implement them in ETL pipelines and/or web applications.
Designing databases and applications: You develop data-based web applications while keeping an eye on data security and data protection requirements.
Leading projects: You take on the leadership of projects in the data area, from clarifying requirements through implementation to introduction. You coordinate participants, keep track of deadlines and budget, and ensure a clean handover to operations.
Your Profile
Experience: You have several years of experience in data modelling and analysis with MS-SQL Server, SQL and Python and have implemented web applications, e.g. with Django. You are familiar with GitLab/GitHub and have an interest or experience in the field of AI.
Personality: You enjoy working on diverse tasks and are interested in new things. You like to take responsibility and share your expertise. You feel comfortable working independently but also like to contribute to the team.
Education: You have a university degree at master’s level, e.g. in computer science, (business) informatics, data science, statistics or another relevant field of study.
Language: You communicate well and enjoy communicating in German, both orally and in writing.

The Statistical Office belongs to the Presidential Department and is the statistics and data competence centre of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Independently and according to scientific principles, it provides current statistical information and delivers reliable services for the public and administration. By publishing open government data, it contributes to transparency about governmental actions. It shapes data management in the canton and advocates for efficient data flows as well as effective data governance.
