Civil Engineer (m/f/d)
Salary - CHF90,000 - 95,000Role:
On behalf of a client, we are seeking a qualified specialist as a Civil Engineer in Geotechnics and Foundation Engineering for a specialised Swiss engineering company focusing on soil investigations, geotechnics, hydrogeology, and natural hazards. You will work on diverse infrastructure, building construction, and civil engineering projects for public and private clients, including demanding projects in railway and national road construction. The focus is on geotechnical design, static calculation of foundations and excavation pits, soil assessment, and technical site management. The position combines engineering calculations, digital modelling, field investigations, and site supervision and is suitable for both experienced professionals and motivated recent graduates.
Responsibilities:
Geotechnical design: Independently handling foundation, excavation pit, and foundation projects in building construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure construction
Soil investigations: Planning, coordinating, and evaluating boreholes, dynamic probing, test pits, and geotechnical field tests to assess soil conditions
Foundation planning and design: Designing and calculating shallow foundations, pile foundations, ground improvement measures, and other foundation systems
Excavations and specialised deep foundations: Designing excavation supports, nailed walls, anchors, strutting, and retaining structures considering geotechnical boundary conditions
Geotechnical calculations: Performing settlement, bearing capacity, slope stability, and deformation calculations using appropriate software
Geotechnical reports: Preparing soil reports, geotechnical statements, foundation recommendations, and technical expert opinions
Geotechnical measurements and monitoring: Planning and evaluating settlement measurements, inclinometer readings, groundwater level measurements, and structural monitoring
Hydrogeology and groundwater: Supporting hydrogeological investigations, groundwater assessments, dewatering concepts, and drainage planning
Natural hazards and slope stabilisation: Assisting in the assessment of landslides, rockfall, slope instabilities, and avalanche hazards as well as developing suitable protective measures
Technical site management in geotechnics: Supervising and controlling foundation, excavation, and specialised deep foundation works and checking conformity between planning and execution
Infrastructure projects: Handling geotechnical issues for railway infrastructure, national roads, civil engineering structures, and other public construction projects
Digital planning and modelling: Using PLAXIS, CAD systems, and digital evaluation tools for geotechnical calculations, documentation, and project processing
Qualifications:
Completed studies as a Civil Engineer at ETH or FH with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably specialising in geotechnics, foundation engineering, or structural engineering
Interest or initial professional experience in geotechnics, soil assessment, foundation planning, and specialised deep foundations; recent graduates are also welcome
Basic knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, excavation design, and geotechnical calculation methods
Knowledge of Swiss SIA standards, especially SIA 260, SIA 261, and SIA 267, as well as relevant geotechnical investigation and design principles
Very good IT skills, especially MS Office and CAD applications; experience with PLAXIS 2D/3D or comparable geotechnical calculation software is an advantage
Willingness to perform fieldwork, soil investigations, and site assignments as well as interest in hydrogeology and natural hazards
Very good German language skills in speaking and writing for preparing technical reports, geotechnical documentation, and communication with clients
