The Neuchâtel Museum of Art and History (MahN) is one of the four museum institutions of the City of Neuchâtel. Equipped with rich collections (visual arts, history, applied arts, numismatics), it consists of two divisions, art and history, and offers an ambitious programme of exhibitions and events.
The Department of Culture of the City of Neuchâtel is advertising a position for its Museum of Art and History (MahN) for a
Deputy Director and Curator of Historical Collections (80%)
Activities / You contribute, alongside the director, to the definition and implementation of the strategic, managerial, scientific, organisational and cultural orientations of the Museum, as well as its development. Within your area of expertise, you actively participate in museum policy, as well as in the programme of publications and temporary and permanent exhibitions of the MahN.
Under the supervision of the management, you are responsible for the management and coordination of the history division, as well as several specific sectors, including human resources and administration. In your capacity as curator, you ensure the scientific responsibility of the division you lead and supervise the conservation, study and development of the collections, in accordance with the institution’s missions and in compliance with the ICOM code of ethics.
You develop links with internal and external partners, as well as with other museums and cultural or scientific institutions, and contribute to the MahN’s profile locally and nationally.
Desired profile / You hold a doctorate in history or an equivalent qualification, with additional training or certified skills in management, museology and cultural institution management. You have at least 5 years’ experience in leading a museum institution and significant experience in cultural projects. You are confident in communication and committed to the values of openness, kindness and respect in human relations. You have an excellent command of French (spoken and written) and good knowledge of German and English.
