Senior Software Engineer AI and Process Automation

Engineering and Development: Excellent skills in modern programming languages. You develop AI- and data-based applications and securely transfer them into productive environments. Additionally, you build efficient CI/CD pipelines as well as automated tests for the highest quality.

Solution and Software Architecture: Confident design of modular, highly available architectures. You master API design, integration patterns, and event-based systems and derive precise technical solution concepts from complex requirements that remain maintainable in the long term.

Platform Operation and Automation: Sound knowledge in monitoring, scaling, and incident management. You are proficient in the use of Infrastructure-as-Code, container orchestration, and agent-based automation to guarantee a stable, modern platform operation.

Collaboration and Delivery: Experienced in agile teams, you coordinate with data scientists and business analysts. You communicate technology clearly, take responsibility for end-to-end delivery, and drive the continuous improvement of our development processes.

AI Engineering: Confident use of open-source AI tool stacks and cloud-native technologies (such as K8s). You are responsible for the architecture and operation of scalable AI services as well as their seamless integration into our productive, state-of-the-art platform environments.

Experience: Comprehensive experience in building and operating cloud-native platforms as well as in the use of modern open-source AI tool stacks. You are skilled in the development, integration, and productive deployment of AI-based applications and services.

Personality: Confident in the architecture and operation of scalable AI services in productive environments. You are accustomed to working independently within a team, conveying complex technology understandably, and jointly setting technological standards.

Education: Completed studies in computer science or software engineering. You bring valuable further training in cloud or AI technologies. Relevant certifications (e.g. Kubernetes) underline your technical depth and professionalism.

Language: Fluent communication with a wide range of customer groups. You formulate technical documentation precisely and present solutions confidently. Very good German skills are mandatory; good English skills are advantageous.

IT BS is the internal IT service provider of the Canton of Basel-Stadt and belongs to the Finance Department. The department provides the collaboration and communication infrastructure for mobile and stationary IT workplaces and the associated support. Additionally, IT BS continuously develops various offerings for the public in the area of eGovernment and digitalisation. A functioning IT is central to the efficient operation of the cantonal administration.

The Cross-Section Applications department drives digitalisation in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Our modular ecosystem includes eGovernment, business administration, the bs.ch website including UX/design system, chatbots, as well as low-code, AI, and data platforms. As a member of the new cross-functional AI and Process Automation team, you develop solutions that provide real added value to the cantonal administration.
