Senior Research Engineer - Energy (80-100%)

  • Your main responsibility is to work cross-functionally and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team expertise in adsorption process development, testing, material development, sorbent structure design, material characterization and data science. Your goal is to understand the energy flows of Climeworks’ current and future DAC systems, identify energy savings potential and drive implementation of identified energy saving measures.
  • You lead targeted measurement campaigns, from lab-scale to full-scale, to mature novel energy reduction solutions and confirm their potential, as well as to support the development and validation of Climeworks’ advanced energy modeling capabilities for phenomenological and dynamic models application.
  • You manage collaboration with internal and external partners geared towards increasing the fundamental understanding of Climeworks’ DAC process energy consumption and complement Climeworks’ own R&D activities.
  • You mentor and train junior members of the team, as well as facilitate trainings on energy topics for other departments of the company.
  • You generate new ideas and concepts to improve Climeworks’ IP portfolio. You stay abreast of new relevant technological developments in the field of DAC and provide competitive assessments.

  • You hold a university degree at PhD level in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • You bring advanced knowledge in thermodynamics, heat and/or energy model development or separation processes in general. Experience with dynamic and non-steady state systems would be especially valuable.
  • You have at least 3 years of industrial experience in a similar role – including modelling, data analysis and technology maturation positions.
  • You have experience in and enjoy working with dynamic simulations and numerical modelling.
  • You take ownership of your projects, prefer detail-oriented work, and thrive working in an interdisciplinary team.
  • You are fluent in English. German is beneficial but not required.
