Risk is a newly created function, which plays a central role in our organisation. The team oversees all risk aspects of the company: carbon projects, financial, people, governance, reputation, data, IT security and many others. The mandate of the team is to identify, assess, manage, mitigate, monitor and anticipate risks South Pole is or could be facing. It also defines boundaries within which South Pole teams can operate by providing guidance and recommendations and escalation procedures. The risk team has some level of independence given that the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) reports directly to the CEO and is the main counterpart of the audit and risk committee at board level.

Job summary:

The Enterprise Risk Manager will be responsible for developing, enhancing, implementing, and managing the enterprise-wide risk management framework to ensure that risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and effectively mitigated with the ultimate goal to support the business in achieving its strategic goals.

The role will collaborate closely with the CRO and the senior members of the Risk Team. You will report to the Associate Director, Risk and you will work together with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure South Pole is positioned to manage its key and emerging risks.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of risk management principles. The role provides a unique opportunity to learn about all aspects of the company and to be directly involved in strategic and high priority projects.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

Promote best practice in identifying, assessing, controlling and responding to risks through the embedding of an enterprise risk management framework.

Design processes to mitigate or eliminate potential risks.

Develop risk management controls and systems.

Develop and maintain risk related policies and procedures.

Develop and maintain business risk registers.

Map the different internal committees across the company, assess overlaps and make recommendations on way forward

Develop communication material for internal and external stakeholders about the enhanced risk management framework

Facilitate risk workshops and training sessions to increase risk awareness and promote a strong risk culture throughout the organization.

Coordinate internal risk committees, manage agendas and assign (and monitor) follow-up tasks

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and analyze potential risks to the organization's objectives.

Collaborate with departmental leaders to identify and prioritize key risks and develop risk mitigation strategies and action plans.

Coordinate risk reporting and provide regular updates to senior management on the organization's risk profile, trends, and mitigation activities.

With support from senior Leadership, support the ongoing creation of, and education related to, a risk aware culture across the organisation.

Development and implementation of a group risk tolerance framework to support alignment across decision making bodies within the organisation.

Support risk reporting to the Board Audit & Risk Committee as required.

Build strong working relationships with risk specialists and first line teams.

Requirements:

Essential -

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MSc) and/or professional certifications (e.g., CRM, FRM, CFA) preferred.

Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in enterprise risk management

Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and assess complex risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

Experience and at ease in working in a multi-stakeholder environment

Ability to identify gaps and design/enhance processes, tools, and guidance to address them

Proficiency with spreadsheets and at ease with data analysis

A proactive, diligent and independent approach

Fast learner and curious individual

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Very good knowledge of Google Suite
