Focuslight SA manufactures high-end micro-optical components and subsystems and provides optical solutions for customers in the automotive, telecom/datacom, laser, medical and semiconductor industries.

A dedicated and highly skilled R&D team is the basis for our success. To strengthen our position and growth in the long-term business in our markets, we are looking for an Optical Engineer.

The Optical Engineer works on specialist level on next generation products. She/he plans, designs, builds and tests innovative products and equipment and develops technologies using a research-driven processes.

In more detail the Optical Engineer should be

  • Part of the R&D groups on automotive, medtech, illumination and data/telecom optics
  • Designing micro-optical components and sub-systems
  • Simulating and optimizing refractive and diffractive optics (DOE/ROE)
  • Utilizing machine learning to improve performance and yield of optical sub-systems
  • Optionally attending trade shows and scientific conferences in photonics
  • Technical support for sales

Expected professional skills :

  • Master or higher degree in photonics, optical engineering, electrical engineering or physics
  • Experience in modelling coherent and incoherent optical systems
  • Knowledge of optical modelling tools (ZEMAX, FRED, VirtualLab, …)
  • Skilled in numerical computing software tools (MatLab, Pyhton, …)
  • Preferably knowledge in micromachining or microfabrication technology
  • Additional qualifications or experience in project management are a plus
  • Excellent communications skills, self-motivated and flexible
  • Ability to work as an effective team player, who is proactive and takes initiative (problem solving)
  • Good knowledge of the photonics markets, material science or optical coatings are useful
