The International School of Lausanne (ISL) is a leading not-for-profit, International Baccalaureate (IB) World School set in the French speaking part of Switzerland. For our Design Technology department, we are seeking to appoint an organised, flexible and independent
Design Technology Technician 40%
A renewable two-year contract from 20 August 2026
The Design Technology Technician supports the safe and efficient running of the Design Technology workshop and digital fabrication facilities. The role includes maintaining equipment, preparing and managing lesson materials, and supporting teachers and students with practical design and technology projects. The post holder will be a member of the school’s Administration and Support team and work within the secondary school Design Technology department.
Main responsibilities:
- Maintain and service workshop equipment, including band saws, pillar drills, sanding machines, 3D printers, laser cutters and supporting tools.
- Carry out routine safety and security checks on machinery, tools and materials, reporting hazards or defects promptly.
- Prepare materials and components for lessons according to teacher specifications.
- Support teachers and students in the safe use of workshop and digital fabrication equipment during practical activities, including student prototypes and project materials.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of materials, consumables and personal protective equipment, ensuring secure storage.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and professional workshop environment, supporting departmental displays and exhibitions, and adhering to health, safety, and security standards.
Desired profile:
- A technically-minded individual with an interest and experience in materials and design technology
- Experience with digital fabrication equipment, including laser cutters and 3D printers (or a willingness to learn)
- Strong organisational skills, particularly in managing stock, resources and workshop organisation.
- High level of health and safety awareness within workshop or fabrication settings.
- Understanding of and sensitivity to cultural variance
- ICT skills and a knowledge of their effective use to support the organisation
- Good level in English (B2). Some French may be an advantage.
Working schedule:
The post holder would work at 40% during school terms and be expected to take 55 days of holiday entitlement during school closure. The annualised occupation rate of this position is equivalent to a 35% position.
There is some flexibility in working hours. However, it is expected that the postholder would ideally work four mornings or afternoons a week.
