Project Manager - Heavy Industry

As part of the development of one of our clients, a Swiss industrial player specialised in the design and manufacture of complex, customised technical equipment, we are looking for an experienced Industrial Project Manager.

You will join a demanding engineering environment, where large-scale mechanical equipment and special machines are developed and produced for international clients.

Your responsibilities

You will ensure the complete management of complex industrial projects, from the initial engineering phases to the delivery and commissioning of the equipment.

In this capacity, your main tasks will notably include:

• Managing large-scale industrial projects worth several million, or even tens of millions, of CHF;

• Being the main client contact throughout the project;

• Coordinating the various technical disciplines: mechanical, calculation, automation, electrical, manufacturing and installation;

• Managing internal engineering teams and various external partners;

• Monitoring studies, design and technical validations;

• Managing suppliers and subcontractors involved in the project;

• Ensuring compliance with cost, quality and deadline objectives;

• Tracking the project budget, risks, contractual changes and any amendments;

• Supervising the various phases of manufacturing, assembly, testing and acceptance;

• Supporting the installation, commissioning and start-up phases at the client’s site;

• Providing regular reporting to Management and the various stakeholders.

Your profile

• Higher education such as Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or equivalent training;

• Approximately 10 to 12 years of professional experience in a demanding industrial environment;

• An initial career phase ideally in mechanical design, design office, calculation or mechanical engineering;

• A successful progression to roles such as Project Manager, Project Manager, Business Manager or Project Leader;

• Significant experience in managing complex projects involving special machines or customised industrial equipment;

• Experience gained in environments such as heavy engineering, special machines, lifting and handling equipment, steel industry, energy, naval, hydroelectricity, machine tools or large industrial equipment will be particularly appreciated;

• Good understanding of design, welded mechanical manufacturing, assembly and installation issues;

• Strong experience in managing budgets, schedules, suppliers and client relationships;

• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams;

• Fluent English is essential;

• Fluent French;

• Availability for occasional travel within Switzerland and internationally.
