Role:
In this role, your commitment helps ensure that the IT infrastructure of a dynamic chemical research environment with numerous research groups and many employees and students functions smoothly. You maintain communication and direct contact with users and ensure that their IT concerns are addressed purposefully and efficiently. Together with the central IT department, you are responsible for the stable and secure operation of the systems and services that support research and teaching. Additionally, you provide on-site support and ensure that technical problems are quickly identified and resolved. In this way, you make a decisive contribution to the optimal progress of innovative projects in the fields of life sciences, energy research, and chemistry.
Responsibilities:
You manage, maintain, and support the local IT infrastructure at 1st and 2nd level, including servers and workstations with Windows, macOS, and Linux
In this role, you set up, monitor, and ensure data backups for servers, laboratory and device PCs, as well as selected workstation systems
As a System Engineer, you support users with the software solutions used and advise them on IT tools and IT security
You participate in smaller IT projects and coordinate them in collaboration with the central IT department
In this role, you automate and simplify routine support tasks
As a System Engineer, you work with research groups on scientific IT topics such as cloud-based infrastructure, AI-supported research processes, and digital chemistry
Qualifications:
- You have training in computer science at least at the level of an EFZ apprenticeship as an IT specialist with a focus on platform development
- Ideally, you have a degree in computer science from a university of applied sciences
- You bring several years of experience as a system engineer
- You have sound knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Linux systems on both client and server sides
- You engage proactively with the specific requirements of individual research groups and users and maintain direct contact with them
- You work in a structured, solution-oriented, and independent manner and are characterised by a responsible, communicative, and team-oriented personality
