About the job
The social service of the City of Geneva (SOC) contributes to improving the living environment and conditions of the inhabitants of our city by creating connections and enabling them to fully participate in social life. Prioritising local action, the SOC offers services and develops projects aimed at promoting solidarity, integration, and inclusion of people in vulnerable situations, in collaboration with institutional and associative partners. The Social Emergency System in particular responds to the needs of people experiencing homelessness or severe hardship in 5 dedicated facilities (Emergency shelters and Left Bank social club).
To strengthen its existing team, the SOC is looking for a
Social Host or Social Hostess (ASO) at 76%
under the following conditions:
- schedule: 3x8 rotating shifts (morning: 0700-1530 / evening: 1500-2330 / night: 2300-0730)
- 7 nights per 8-week cycle
- hourly wage, according to planning
- fixed-term contract
- start date: from 14 December 2026
- end of contract: 31 December 2027
Your mission
- Ensure the reception and socio-sanitary supervision of vulnerable people;
- Carry out first-level socio-sanitary assessments and take appropriate measures (information, guidance, etc.);
- Support beneficiaries in accessing personal hygiene by implementing adapted strategies that promote maintaining or restoring hygiene compatible with respect for their dignity and autonomy. Also support them in managing their personal belongings;
- Manage the group and enforce the defined framework for people present in the reception facility; ensure cohabitation and safety of the place;
- Engage with homeless people in public spaces, create a climate of trust, assess the situation and decide on measures to take if necessary;
- Perform all administrative tasks related to the requirements of the role (record observations in reports, use the database, etc.).
Your profile
- Hold a Bachelor of Arts HES-SO in social work, an equivalent qualification, and/or demonstrate proven experience in professional service activities where interpersonal relationships are essential;
- Show empathy and authority with a vulnerable public;
- Be able to react promptly in emergency situations and demonstrate initiative;
- Mastery of several languages is an asset for the role;
- Hold a driving licence;
- Be willing or prepared to work irregular hours (day, evening, night, weekends and public holidays).
