Head of Building and Hospitality Inspection Office

You lead the Building and Hospitality Inspection Office: You manage a department with around 40 employees, represent the organisation towards politics, authorities, business, associations, media and the public, and are a member of the executive management of the BVD.

You position the office as a modern specialist authority: You position the office as a competent, service-oriented leading and specialist authority, ensure an efficient, timely and legally compliant approval process as well as professional communication internally and externally.

You manage approval and supervisory processes: You strengthen the office’s leading authority function and optimise coordination with reporting specialist bodies, ensure compliance with legal requirements and decide on fundamental issues. In addition, you conduct negotiations and contribute to legislation.

You continuously develop the office: You initiate organisational and digitalisation projects, promote a modern leadership and collaboration culture, optimise processes and services, and continuously develop the office in line with new requirements and expectations.

Co-leadership optionally possible: The position is basically intended for a 100% workload. Filling the role as job sharing or co-leadership is optionally possible.

Experience: You have in-depth knowledge of building and spatial planning legislation, several years of leadership experience, experience in construction and architecture as well as in managing change processes.

Personality: You are an integrative, team-oriented and communicative leadership personality with high social competence, cooperation and assertiveness skills, and you present yourself confidently towards politics, authorities, business, associations and media.

Education: You hold a university degree in architecture or civil engineering or a comparable qualification, as well as in-depth knowledge of building, spatial planning and administrative law, complemented by relevant further training in leadership and specialist areas.

The Building and Hospitality Inspection Office is the approval and supervisory authority for construction and hospitality and is assigned to the Department of Construction and Transport Basel-Stadt. It issues building and hospitality permits as well as permits based on the Housing Promotion Act, carries out building inspections, conducts the hospitality professional examination, offers consultation hours and much more. This ensures that legal provisions in the areas of construction and hospitality are complied with. A very diverse clientele as well as the general public benefit from this commitment.

The Building and Hospitality Inspection Office is the central interface between builders, planners and administration and shapes the structural development of the city canton as a leading authority.
