We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Head of Facility and Security to oversee the strategic and operational management of our campus infrastructure, maintenance, and security functions. This senior role is critical in ensuring that our facilities operate efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with relevant regulations.
As the Head of Facility and Security, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for campus maintenance, safety & security operations, and sustainability initiatives. You will work closely with internal departments, external service providers, and local authorities to maintain high standards in all aspects of campus operations.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited for a solution-oriented professional with strong decision-making skills, a background in both technical facility management and safety/security operations, and the ability to lead in a dynamic, multicultural environment.
Main Responsibilities:
Facility Management
- Oversee day-to-day campus operations, including the maintenance of buildings, utilities, landscaping, and technical infrastructure.
- Ensure the ongoing functionality and preventive maintenance of all facilities and systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection.
- Manage and monitor campus maintenance budgets, procurement, and service contracts.
- Manage the maintenance team, ensuring high performance and continuous professional development.
- Lead projects related to campus upgrades, refurbishments, or infrastructure expansion.
- Ensure compliance with Swiss health, safety, and environmental regulations and promote sustainability best practices.
Security & Safety Operations
- Ensure that all students, employees, and guests experience a safe and secure campus environment.
- Act as the main point of contact for external security providers and coordinate all campus security measures.
- Ensure emergency systems are fully operational and develop strong working relationships with local authorities (police, fire services, hospitals, etc.).
- Lead emergency response planning and execution, including crisis and incident management.
- Promote a culture of safety through training, internal communication, and regular safety drills.
- Oversee event safety planning and on-site support for large gatherings (e.g., graduations, conferences, student events).
- Support student conduct investigations and act as a liaison during incidents requiring coordination with external entities.
Main Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in facility management (e.g. IFMA, FMP) and workplace safety/security (e.g. MSST).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role managing facility operations and/or campus security.
- Experience working in an educational institution, hospitality, or public service setting is preferred.
- Proven experience in managing budgets, teams, and external contractors or service providers.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, security infrastructure, and emergency response procedures.
- Familiarity with Swiss safety, health, and environmental legislation.
- Comfortable using MS Office and facility management or student information systems.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and crisis management skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions in emergencies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities across all levels of the organization.
- Fluent in French and English (spoken and written). Other languages are a plus.
