Virtual infrastructures form the foundation of modern enterprise IT. This position is aimed at experienced infrastructure engineers who not only operate complex virtualisation platforms but also actively develop, automate and align the technical platform for maximum stability and security.
Responsibilities:
Technical responsibility for highly available virtualisation platforms in the enterprise environment
Planning and further development of server and client virtualisation based on modern platform architectures
Design of the infrastructure from the physical layer to the operating system
Further development of the platform architecture considering performance, availability, security and scalability
Assuming technical platform responsibility throughout the entire lifecycle
Planning and implementation of platform upgrades, migrations and technological modernisations
Standardisation of infrastructure components and establishment of reproducible operational processes
Automation of recurring administration and provisioning tasks
Operation and optimisation of Broadcom VMware Cloud Foundation and adjacent virtualisation technologies
Engineering and further development of VMware NSX-based network and security concepts
Integration of compute, storage, network and identity components into a holistic infrastructure architecture
Technical collaboration with specialists from network, storage, security and system engineering
Analysis of complex performance and stability issues including root cause analysis
Conducting capacity analyses and proactive resource planning
Further development of storage architectures for different workload requirements
Use of modern management and orchestration solutions such as Cisco Intersight
Establishment of infrastructure-as-code and configuration management processes
Creation and maintenance of technical architecture documentation, standards and operational concepts
Ensuring controlled, secure and traceable platform operation
Qualifications:
Completed training or further education in computer science, system engineering or comparable technical qualification
Several years of experience in engineering and operating complex IT infrastructures
Solid expertise in enterprise virtualisation, especially Broadcom VMware
Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation and NSX
Good knowledge of modern storage technologies such as vSAN, SAN/FC, block storage, file storage and S3
Understanding of the interplay between compute, storage, network, operating systems and authentication services
Experience with Cisco Intersight or comparable infrastructure management platforms
Knowledge of Ansible, Terraform or comparable automation technologies
Strong understanding of IT security and secure-by-design principles
Experience with standardisation, automation and lifecycle management
Analytical thinking and structured approach to complex technical issues
Willingness to engage long-term in demanding and regulated IT environments
