About the job
The library of the Slavic Seminar at the University of Basel is a seminar library with over 40,000 volumes. The focus is on - predominantly original language - works on language, literature, film, theatre and culture. Linguistically, the collection concentrates mainly on Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian, as well as Polish, Russian, Czech, and Ukrainian. The holdings of the seminar library are supplemented by the Lieb collection of the UB Basel, which comprises about 14,000 rarities mainly from the field of Russian theology and philosophy.
Cataloguing is done in the library management system Alma according to the cataloguing rules of RDA (Resource Description and Access) and the GND (Integrated Authority File).

Your Tasks
- You carry out acquisition orders, incoming control and cataloguing of monographs, journals and other media for the library of the Department of Slavic Studies.
- You are responsible for stock maintenance.
- You produce copies if required and send monographs for interlibrary loan.
- You ensure order in the library and in the other rooms belonging to the library, in particular compliance with the user regulations.
- You independently take on further tasks arising in the area of the library.
Your Profile
- Federally recognised diploma "Bachelor of Science FH in Information Science" or equivalent training or specialist in information and documentation with specific knowledge/experience for the area of responsibility
- Very good knowledge of the various modules of Alma including the cataloguing rules (RDA) as well as good PC user skills
- Good oral and written language skills in at least one of the library profile languages (Russian, Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian, Polish or Czech) as well as passive knowledge of other Slavic languages
- Mastery of the transliteration rules of Cyrillic
