Job Description
As an inspector within the Consumer Office (OFCO), attached to the Department of Agriculture, Sustainability, Climate and Digital Affairs, you actively contribute to consumer protection and the safety of foodstuffs and consumer goods in its mission to monitor businesses and public establishments at the cantonal level. You plan and coordinate inspections, sampling and interventions, and conduct investigations and make recommendations. In close collaboration with the relevant authorities and partners, you contribute to continuous improvement, quality assurance and the sharing of expertise within the inspection sector.
Responsibilities
- Ensure consumer protection, as well as the legal compliance of companies, businesses and public establishments producing or marketing foodstuffs or consumer goods within a defined geographical area of the cantonal territory.
- Plan, organise and coordinate inspection and sampling missions, as well as interventions in case of alarms, within the framework defined by the Cantonal Inspector.
- Analyse complex cases, carry out investigations required by the Cantonal Inspector and participate in interventions in pairs or small teams on mandate.
- Manage specific issues requiring enhanced coordination with other cantonal or national control bodies as well as institutional partners.
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the foodstuffs and consumer goods inspectorate, the maintenance and development of the quality assurance system, and the sharing of expertise within the inspectorate.
- Participate in the training of professionals in the assigned sector.

Qualifications
- Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) in the food sector supplemented by a food specialisation or equivalent training
- Federal diploma in food control (DCAl) which can be obtained during employment
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in the food sector
- Knowledge of various food technologies and standards, as well as cantonal, federal and international laws and ordinances on foodstuffs and consumer goods and their good practice guides
- Knowledge of appeal and criminal complaint procedures in food law as well as quality management systems and ISO 17020 and 17025 standards
- Sense of responsibility and public service ethics
- Spirit of mutual aid and collaboration
- Good oral expression and writing skills
- Assertiveness and independence of judgement
- Requirement to carry out occasional interventions at night or during weekends, including public holidays
- Driving licence and availability of private vehicle for professional travel

It also ensures the fairness of commercial transactions by promoting transparent practices compliant with the legal framework. Furthermore, it oversees the quality of distributed water and its availability in sufficient quantity.
These missions are carried out in a coordinated and complementary manner by three groups: the Inspectorate, the laboratories and the Cantonal Office of Weights and Measures. They also rely on essential cross-functional roles such as administration, legal affairs and quality assurance, which contribute to the smooth operation and overall coherence of the Office.
