About the job
50-100%
Smile is the first insurance without the nonsense. We make insurance as simple as it should be: approachable, innovative, straightforward and completely online. In Switzerland and Austria, over 200,000 people already trust Smile. With this role, you will become part of our team, bring your superpower and help shape the insurance of tomorrow with us. Bring your full potential: Although the position is possible from 50%, we ideally seek reinforcement with a workload of 80-100%.
What you will achieve
- You actively shape the technical conception of our international Kotlin Multiplatform app and develop it together with internal and external colleagues.
- You take technical responsibility for our Android and iOS Smile app as well as for the Spring Boot backend services within the team.
- You actively help build agentic coding within the team and establish new AI-supported working methods in software development.
- You work closely with our UX & Design team to get the best for our customers and independently optimise workflows.
- You actively share your knowledge within the team and support your team members in their professional development.
- Together, as a DevOps-Scrum team, you ensure the smooth operation of our Smile app and the backend services you are responsible for.
What you bring
- You have a completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or comparable experience.
- You have been working as a full-stack mobile developer for five or more years and have extensive experience in the entire development cycle of an app with Kotlin Multiplatform.
- You have three or more years of experience as a backend developer with Kotlin/Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL and REST APIs.
- Automated testing (unit, integration and UI) as well as meaningful documentation are natural to you.
- Experience with developing microservices in AWS and infrastructure-as-code is a plus but not mandatory.
- You are familiar with software development within an agile DevOps-SCRUM team.
- You have the necessary drive to continuously develop yourself and the team. You reflect on your own actions, question things critically and find constructive solutions.
- You possess very good communication skills, have persuasion and assertiveness, and bring the necessary experience to provide our customers with an optimal user experience.
- You can explain complex technical processes simply and understandably to the product owner and stakeholders.
- You can communicate very well in German and well in English with your colleagues (both spoken and written).
What makes Smile special
Smile is the largest online insurance in Switzerland – and we are continuously growing. That’s why we are constantly looking for new people who want to continue this journey with us. Being a Smiler does not mean just being ordinary, but being involved with heart and passion. With nearly 80 employees, we are relatively small and that is exactly why every voice counts even more with us. This way, you can make more of a difference here than elsewhere. And because genuine relationships matter to us, aperitifs are just as important as honest feedback and transparency. Insurance doesn’t have to be boring. We are curious, technology-enthusiastic and open to detours – as long as we learn from them. Short decision-making paths are just as much a part of us as the opportunity to contribute quickly: creatively, boldly and across team boundaries. And the best part: despite start-up vibes, you benefit from the stability and advantages of a large company. As a 100% subsidiary of Helvetia Insurance, we have a strong employer behind us.
