System Engineer for Server/Virtualisation/Infrastructure (m/f/d); 80-100%

Tasks

• Operation, administration and further development of the KVM-based virtualisation platform including provisioning, lifecycle management, patching, performance optimisation and troubleshooting during ongoing operations
• Administration of Linux and Windows servers in physical and virtualised environments, including installation, configuration, hardening, patching, monitoring and incident/problem management
• Ensuring stable, secure and available operation of the compute platforms including capacity management, performance analyses as well as sustainable fault rectification at server, hypervisor and operating system level
• Participation in automation and standardisation of operational tasks, e.g. with scripting or infrastructure-as-code, to increase quality, speed and traceability
• Participation in infrastructure projects such as migrations, renewals, rollouts and technical changes in the compute, storage and backup environment as well as documentation in Confluence and updating existing entries

Requirements

• Completed IT training (EFZ or equivalent) as well as 3-5 years of practical experience as a system engineer in the infrastructure environment
• Good to very good knowledge of KVM / QEMU / libvirt or comparable virtualisation technologies as well as understanding of cluster, HA and resource management
• Practical experience in the administration of Linux and Windows servers, ideally including OS lifecycle, security hardening, patch management and troubleshooting in enterprise environments
• Basic to good understanding of storage and backup technologies, e.g. SAN/NAS, snapshotting, replication, restore, recovery and DR test procedures
• Structured, reliable and team-oriented working style, good communication skills as well as willingness to take responsibility in daily operations and in changes/projects
