Director of the Cantonal and University Library - Lausanne (BCUL)

Within the General Directorate of Culture, you will assume the leadership of the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne (BCUL), one of the largest libraries in Switzerland. Spread across several sites and with more than 225 employees, the BCUL carries out its activities in service of the university community and the entire population.

In a context marked by rapid changes in educational, scientific and informational practices, you will carry the strategic vision of the institution and steer its transformation. You will ensure to strengthen its relevance, attractiveness and influence, while guaranteeing the excellence of its services.

Through inspiring and unifying leadership, you will mobilise teams around common objectives, support change and maintain trusting relationships with authorities, institutional partners and various stakeholders.

• Ensure the management of the BCUL and human resources administration.

• Define the strategy to prepare and plan the evolution of the BCUL in line with technological, scientific and societal developments.

• Develop and implement policies for the development, conservation, study and promotion of scientific, heritage and general public collections.

• Develop and implement the development of services for the public and the network of Vaud libraries.

• Represent the BCUL with political authorities, the University of Lausanne, HEP Vaud, other DGES institutions, DGEO, DGEP, as well as local, regional, national and international partners.

• Master's degree in documentary information or equivalent qualification.

• Postgraduate diploma in management and/or project management.

• Extensive prior experience in a similar senior position, in the management of a library or a major cultural institution.

• Proven achievements in strategic management and change leadership.

• Demonstrated expertise in the field of librarianship.

• Strong interest in new technologies.

• Proficiency in German and English.

• Global and strategic vision, excellent analytical, synthesis and writing skills, strong decision-making ability, sense of responsibility and public service ethics.
• Recognised leadership, excellent communication, negotiation and representation skills.
