The International School of Lausanne (ISL) is a leading not-for-profit, International Baccalaureate (IB) World School set in the French speaking part of Switzerland. For our Primary and our Secondary School, we are seeking to appoint a self-motivated and organised
Learning Support Assistant
Auxiliary fixed-term contract from 20 August 2026 to 30 June 2027
The Learning Support Assistant provides help and support to children who have additional learning needs. The children may have a specific learning disability, health issue, behavioural concerns, or difficult external circumstances that make classroom learning more challenging. The Learning Support Assistant’s overall function is to support the students through the academic, personal, and behavioural elements of school life to meet their specific needs.
The Learning Support Assistant is part of the Student Support Services team, which includes 20 staff members dedicated to the well-being of our students. The successful applicant will be required to work approximately 25 periods/week on a flexible schedule to fit the student’s planning.
Main responsibilities:
- Provide academic, behavioural, social, and physical support to students to ensure their safety, well-being, and access to learning.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Learning Support Teacher to implement individualised learning strategies and accommodations.
- Support students in developing independence, engagement, and continuity in their learning across all school settings.
- Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Supervise and support students during lessons, transitions, breaks, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times.
- Monitor student progress and contribute to accurate and timely documentation, including observations, accommodations, and learning outcomes.
- Promote positive behaviour and social integration within the classroom and wider school community.
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with teachers, learning support staff, and parents to ensure consistency between home and school.
- Use professional judgment and initiative to respond appropriately to students’ individual learning, emotional, and physical needs.
- Foster respectful relationships that support students’ confidence, participation, and overall development.
Desired profile:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in education. Training or qualifications in specialised education are an asset.
- Experience working with children in a school setting, particularly in one-to-one or learning support roles, is highly desirable.
- Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and foster their confidence and engagement.
- Understanding of diverse learning needs and learning differences (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, autism) and the ability to support students accordingly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with strong listening skills. Additional languages are an asset.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate student-related documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a culturally diverse school community.
- Flexible, proactive, and solution-oriented, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
- Reliable, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
- Commitment to continuous professional learning, self-reflection, and personal development.
