DIREV Director

As the Director in charge of the Directorate of Industrial, Urban and Rural Environment (DIREV) within the General Directorate of the Environment (DGE), you are part of its Management Committee (CODIR) and fully involved in its strategic management. DIREV's specific mission within the DGE is the protection of the population and the environment against pollution, harm and nuisances caused by human activities. DIREV comprises three divisions: Air, Climate and Technological Risks (ARC), Water Protection (PRE) and Sanitation (ASS).

Leading a multidisciplinary team of around 70 - 80 people, one of your main tasks is to oversee the development and implementation of public policies for protection against environmental pollutants and to propose to the DGE Director General the strategic directions and the evolution of the resulting legal and organisational frameworks.

This key position covers a wide scope and includes, among others, the following areas and competencies summarised below:

• Define strategic directions and manage DIREV's services in accordance with current legal and regulatory provisions, anticipating climatic, regulatory and societal changes and their impacts
• Lead and animate DIREV, ensuring efficient use of human and financial resources allocated to services and projects of the directorate. Supervise strategic projects and their progress, participate in the DGE budget preparation process
• Support managers and their teams in organisational transformations and skills development
• Ensure quality relations with DIREV's strategic partners and represent the department with relevant stakeholders at regional and municipal levels. Contribute to communication on environmental issues
• Support the Director General in fulfilling his duties for the department and in the ORCA Steering Committee and represent the canton within federal and intercantonal environmental conferences or commissions, according to the DGE's mission allocations

• University Master’s degree in the environmental field or equivalent qualification
• Training in management and/or leadership
• Proven experience in one of the environmental protection fields
• Demonstrated experience in team leadership
• Experience within a public administration is desirable
• Good knowledge of Swiss and cantonal environmental policy and institutions
• Strong interest in policies combating pollutant emissions and immissions and their management from a partnership perspective, considering all their dimensions
• Knowledge of German (B2)
