About the job
EDPR72
Penitentiary Service (SPNE)
The EEPB and EDPR are two high-security closed detention facilities. The first is responsible for the execution of sentences and measures for detainees with varied profiles. It specialises in long-term reception, behavioural development, and phased preparation for release. The second specialises in emergency reception, pre-trial detention, behavioural development, and short-term release preparation. Both focus on intervention in complex situations or involving psychiatric disorders.
Your duties
As a detention officer, you are responsible for supervising and managing detainees, respecting the regulations and security within the facility.
You accompany detainees daily during walks, visits, cultural and leisure activities.
By facilitating detainees' relationships with the outside world, you will play a vital role in actively contributing to their social development and reintegration while respecting their fundamental rights. Finally, communication with various partners is an integral part of your duties, which are performed on varied shifts, including night and weekend duties.
Your profile
Holder of a Federal VET Diploma or equivalent, you are at least 25 years old. Experience in security and excellent physical fitness are assets (physical tests and a medical examination may be required during recruitment).
With a genuine team spirit, you demonstrate open-mindedness, active listening, and discernment, including in managing conflict situations. Your natural authority allows you to enforce rules confidently while embodying a model of exemplary behaviour. Your social skills enable you to show empathy while maintaining the necessary professional distance.
You also have a good command of the French language and are comfortable with common IT tools.
Prerequisites: residence in Switzerland; category B driving licence; clean criminal record and debt enforcement register extract.
As part of your employment, you will undergo basic training leading to the federal diploma of detention officer at the Swiss Competence Centre for the Execution of Penal Sanctions (CSCSP) in Fribourg; you will be sworn in.
