To support our organisation we are looking for our offices in Yverdon-les-Bains for a:
System Engineer (Electronic Devices)
Purpose:
As a System Engineer for Electronic Devices, your mission is to define, develop, and maintain robust system architectures and specifications that ensure the reliable, safe, and compliant operation of the electronic platforms. Under the guidance of the System and Validation Lead, you will translate stakeholder needs into system-level requirements, support cross-functional integration, and ensure alignment with industry standards throughout the product lifecycle. Your work directly contributes to delivering high-quality, validated solutions for demanding marine, railway, and automotive applications.
The Electronic Devices within your scope of responsibilities can be Battery Management System (BMS), Leclanché Generic GUI (LGG), Multi String Manager (MSM), or IOT Platform.
Role & Responsibilities:
System Architecture & Requirements Engineering:
- Gather and evaluate all stakeholder requirements for electronic devices, whether for new developments or ongoing projects.
- Define and maintain the System Requirements Specification (SyRS) and System Architecture Specification (SAS), ensuring alignment with functional, safety, cybersecurity, and performance objectives.
- Propose and evaluate development strategies, including in-house vs. outsourced development and off-the-shelf vs. custom solutions, based on technical, cost, timeline, and strategic considerations.
- Review and approve System Test Specifications at all required levels, ensuring full traceability to system requirements.
- Collaborate with and oversee external development teams, ensuring alignment with system requirements and project objectives. Review and assess their deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal standards and timelines.
Support Hardware and Software Development Teams:
- Support hardware and software teams in deriving requirements from system-level specifications.
- Review and approve top-level HW and SW requirements, ensuring consistency and completeness.
- Actively participate in HW and SW design reviews to ensure alignment with system architecture and requirements.
System Validation Support:
- Support the definition and execution of system validation plans, including functional and performance testing for electronic devices.
- Participate in system-level debugging and root cause analysis of issues identified during integration and validation phases.
- Ensure validation activities are aligned with applicable standards (e.g., ISO 26262, EN 50126/50129, IEC 61508, cybersecurity standards).
Maintain the System over its Whole Lifecycle:
- Configuration Management
- Change Management
- Issues Management
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as a key technical interface between system engineering and other development teams (e.g., software, electronics, cloud, cybersecurity, functional safety).
- Participate in design reviews, safety analysis (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, …), and risk assessments to ensure system robustness and compliance with project requirements.
- Collaborate with product management and customer-facing teams to align system design with user needs and market expectations.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Create and maintain system-level documentation including architecture diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), system requirement specifications (SyRS), and system design descriptions (SDD).
- Ensure compliance with internal development processes and external regulatory standards relevant for the electronic devices (e.g., ISO 26262, EN 50126/50129, IEC 61508, cybersecurity standards).
- Support audits and assessments related to quality, safety, and cybersecurity, where applicable.
Others:
- Responsible for performing other duties in the scope of the Electronic System and Validation Team as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
Skills & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering
- 5+ years of experience in System Engineering
- Strong knowledge of requirement management tools (e.g.: Siemens Polarion, IBM DOORS)
- Strong knowledge of safety-critical development processes (V-Model, Waterfall, Safe SCRUM), and related standards and norms (IEC61508, ISO26262, or EN50126/EN50129/EN50657)
- Optional knowledge of: SysML or UML tools (e.g.: Sparx Enterprise Architect, PTC, Rhapsody) or Model-Based-Design tools (e.g.: Matlab/Simulink, Ansys SCADE, ETAS INCA, Scilab)
Key competencies:
- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of system architecture, embedded systems, and the integration of hardware, software, and communication technologies.
- Requirements Management: Skilled in gathering, analyzing, and translating stakeholder needs into structured, testable system requirements and specifications. Ensures full traceability and alignment across development stages.
- Technical Leadership: Capable of proposing and evaluating development strategies (e.g., in-house vs. outsourced, off-the-shelf vs. custom solutions) and guiding technical decisions across disciplines.
- Safety & Standards Compliance: Knowledgeable in safety-critical system development and analysis (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA), with a strong grasp of relevant standards (e.g., ISO 26262, EN 50126/50129, IEC 61508).
- Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Strong ability to analyze complex technical challenges, perform root cause analysis, and develop effective, innovative solutions.
- Communication: Communicates clearly and effectively across technical and non-technical audiences. Actively listens and adapts communication to foster collaboration and shared understanding.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination: Works effectively with internal teams (HW, SW, Validation, Safety) and external partners to ensure alignment and delivery of system objectives.
- Initiative & Adaptability: Demonstrates ownership, flexibility, and resilience in dynamic environments. Proactively identifies improvement opportunities and adapts to evolving project needs.
- Result Orientation: Focused on delivering high-quality system designs and documentation that meet performance, safety, and compliance targets within project timelines.
Languages:
- English and French very good spoken and writing.
- German or another European language would be a plus.
Other:
- Availability to occasionally travel in Switzerland and abroad.
