Operations Employee at the Wastewater Treatment Plant 100%

Commissioned in 1974, the Echallens wastewater treatment plant is currently undergoing a major transformation. Upon completion of the works planned for 2030, it will be able to treat the wastewater of 28,000 population equivalents (PE).

Nine municipalities have decided to join forces to build a single WWTP in Echallens. The project plans to convert six existing WWTPs into pumping stations (PS) which will be connected to the future regional WWTP by a 27 km pipeline network, of which 18 km are to be constructed. This project will allow cost sharing, more efficient wastewater treatment, especially for nitrogen and micropollutants, and thus better quality of water returned to the natural environment.

Due to the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant, the Infrastructure Department is looking for a:

Desired profile:

- Mandatory electrician or automation technician federal certificate of competence (CFC)

- Having the operating electrician authorisation (art.13 OIBT) is an advantage or willingness to obtain it

- Holder of a wastewater treatment plant operator certificate or a FES certificate including supplementary courses or willingness to undertake the training

- Proven experience in technical work (mechanical and electrical)

- Strong sense of safety (individuals, installations, risk of water pollution)

- Sensitivity to environmental preservation and water protection

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team

- Residence within a maximum 30-minute radius of the municipality

- Holder of a category B driving licence

Mission:

Under the direction of the wastewater treatment plant operations manager (WWTP), the wastewater treatment technician actively participates in the proper functioning of the mechanical and electrical installations of the WWTP and pumping stations and maintains the facilities in a constant state of cleanliness. Their daily contribution is essential to ensure the smooth running of the site, preserve water resources and natural environments, protect the environment and reduce the impact of wastewater on the ecosystem to guarantee quality water for all.

The WWTP operates 24/7. Its monitoring is ensured by an on-call service and a remote alarm supervision/management system. This position requires working irregular hours (including Saturdays and Sundays), as well as residing less than 30 minutes from the WWTP.

Main tasks:

Carry out maintenance and repair work on electromechanical installations; maintain and clean buildings and technical machinery infrastructure; perform daily WWTP operational tasks; conduct laboratory analyses of sludge and effluent; participate in the control and maintenance of wastewater pumping stations.

Preferred working hours: Monday to Friday, with alternating on-call service at weekends.

Start date: From 1 April 2027 or by agreement.
